Hyaluronic acid as a natural moisturizer

Hyaluronic acid as a natural moisturizer

Sufficient hydration is the key to caring for any skin type. Our skin contains 70% water, and all metabolic and restorative processes normally go only in a humid environment. Loosing of moisture from the skin surface occurs constantly. But young skin usually does not suffer from dryness, because its cells produce a sufficient amount of hyaluronic acid - a substance that can retain moisture. With age, the synthesis of hyaluronic acid decreases, and moisture reserves rapidly decrease.

Hyaluronic acid is one of the most popular components of cosmetics. This natural substance has large molecules, each of which binds many water molecules. On the surface of the skin, hyaluronic acid creates a light, breathable film that makes optimal conditions for the renewal of epidermal cells. When a cream with hyaluronic acid is applied to the skin, the visual effect occurs quickly - fine wrinkles are smoothed out, the skin texture becomes velvety. Modern cosmetic creams often also contain low-molecular forms of hyaluronic acid. They are obtained by dividing its long polymer chains into short molecular fragments. In this form, this valuable hydrant is able to penetrate into the deep layers of the skin. This allows stimulating fibroblasts to synthesize their own hyaluronic acid. Thus, the skin functions in a more youthful mode.

Cosmetic formulas usually contain a salt of hyaluronic acid - sodium hyaluronate. Manufacturers may use various names on product packaging: hyaluronic acid, sodium hyaluronate or simply hyaluron.
