Aloe Known and Unknown

Only a few manufacturers have the fortunate opportunity to use fresh aloe gel in their cosmetic products. Organic aloe is especially valued: in this case, the plants are grown on organic plantations without chemical fertilizers and pesticides, allowing producers to work with a pure aloe substance containing a high concentration of bioactive compounds. It is precisely this premium-grade aloe that is used in the production of universal cosmetic products by 2CY COSMETICS – shower gel, shampoo, deodorant, and soothing gel with arnica.

Transparent, lightweight in texture, and refreshing, aloe vera gel is widely used in cosmetic formulations. This southern plant has evolved strategies that allow it to survive dryness, heat, and ultraviolet exposure — properties that are of interest in skincare applications.

Moisture Retention and Skin Hydration

Aloe leaves naturally store significant amounts of water. One of the key components responsible for this ability is a group of polysaccharides capable of binding water molecules.

When applied topically, aloe polysaccharides can form a light, breathable film on the skin surface. This may help reduce transepidermal water loss (TEWL) and support skin hydration.

Aloe is generally considered a well-tolerated moisturizing ingredient and is commonly included in products designed for lightweight hydration without a heavy or greasy feel.

Support for Skin Regeneration

Aloe contains biologically active compounds, including mannose-containing polysaccharides and mannose-6-phosphate (M6P), which have been studied for their role in supporting skin repair mechanisms.

Experimental and some clinical data suggest that certain aloe components may stimulate fibroblast activity and support collagen production during wound healing.

Overall, aloe is considered a supportive ingredient in products intended for soothing and post-exposure care, including after-sun and after-shave applications.

There is a hypothesis that Aloe accelerates skin regeneration thanks to a specific monosaccharide — mannose-6-phosphate (M6P). This compound signals fibroblasts to divide and work more actively, significantly increasing the production of procollagen and elastin fibers. It is assumed that it may even increase the actual size of fibroblasts, making the skin framework denser at the final stage of wound or sunburn healing — during the remodeling phase, when loose granulation tissue is replaced by full type III collagen.

 Skin Elasticity and Appearance

Dryness is a common concern in aging skin, partly due to changes in natural moisture-retaining mechanisms. Adequate hydration can smooth fine lines and enhance overall skin texture and radiance.

Some studies suggest that aloe supplementation and topical application may positively influence skin elasticity and collagen-related markers.

Soothing Properties and Skin Comfort

Aloe vera gel contains multiple bioactive compounds that have demonstrated anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activity in laboratory and experimental studies.

Components such as acemannan, plant sterols (including lupeol), certain phenolic compounds, and antioxidants (vitamins C and E, flavonoids) are associated with soothing effects and modulation of inflammatory processes. These properties make aloe a popular ingredient in products intended for use after sun exposure or in cases of minor skin irritation, for example, insect bites.

Versatility in Cosmetic Formulations

Aloe gel is widely regarded as a versatile cosmetic ingredient. It is commonly used in products formulated for various skin types, including sensitive and blemish-prone skin, due to its lightweight texture and generally good tolerability. However, as with any botanical ingredient, individual reactions are possible.

Manufacturers frequently incorporate aloe into face creams, cleansers, serums, aftershave products, after-sun care, shower gels, and body lotions.

Aloe is also used in hair care formulations. In shampoos and conditioners, it may help support scalp comfort and contribute to smoother-feeling hair, particularly when combined with other conditioning agents.
