Plant-based hair colour is suitable for all ages and can also be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
Now is the perfect time to discover organic botanical hair colour. It does more than simply change your hair colour — it also helps strengthen the hair, enhances natural shine, and supports healthy hair growth.
These colours contain natural pigments that do not alter the inner structure of the hair. Instead, they coat each strand with a luminous, glossy layer on the outside.
Plant-based hair colour cannot lighten dark hair, but it is excellent for covering grey hair. It can also refresh your natural colour or shift your tone by several shades, depending on your starting colour.
What Is Inside Plant Hair Colour?
You will not find ammonia, peroxide, resorcinol or PEGs in the formula.
There are also no synthetic fragrances or preservatives.
Instead, the formula contains only plants, such as:
- Henna
- Indigo
- Amla
- Chamomile
- Madder root
The well-known German natural cosmetics brand Ayluna offers a range of beautifully balanced organic plant hair colour formulas. This is 100% certified natural cosmetics. Carefully selected botanical blends create a wide palette of shades, from light straw blonde and rich dark brown to deep blue-black. The especially fine milling of the plant powders helps achieve excellent, even colour results.
Colour and Care at the Same Time
Alongside colouring plants, Ayluna formulas also include organic herbs known for their beneficial, conditioning effect on the hair.
Cassia (neutral henna) adds visible volume and healthy shine while enhancing colour intensity.
Brahmi is rich in antioxidants and saponins. It helps stimulate circulation in the scalp, soothes itching, reduces hair loss, and strengthens the hair follicles.
Fenugreek seeds create a natural gel that coats the hair, smooths the cuticle, boosts shine, and helps reduce frizz and breakage. This gel-like texture also helps the colour bind more evenly to the hair shaft, improving colour consistency and helping the result last longer. Its hydrating properties can help prevent the dryness sometimes associated with henna or indigo, while also reducing scalp discomfort and split ends.
Helpful Information Before Colouring
How to Colour Grey Hair
Ayluna plant hair colour can be used to cover grey hair. If your hair is more than 40% grey and you would like to achieve a darker shade, pre-pigmentation is recommended.
First, colour the hair with a red Ayluna shade. Then apply your chosen brown shade immediately afterwards or the following day.
Ayluna Plant Hair Colour works by coating the outside of the hair, which means the lengths can gradually become darker with repeated full-head applications. To avoid this, colour all of the hair only every third or fourth application, and in between apply the colour to the roots only.
Create Your Own Favourite Shade
All Ayluna plant hair colours can be mixed together freely, allowing you to create your own personalised shade.
On Chemically Coloured or Permed Hair
Chemical colouring and perming change the structure of the hair, which can lead to unwanted reactions with plant-based hair colour.
As a general rule, wait at least 10 washes and/or 3 weeks after the last chemical treatment before using plant hair colour.
Bleached hair should first be pre-treated with a plant-based treatment such as Cassia, and then darkened gradually.
Can Plant Hair Colour Lighten Hair?
No. Natural hair colour cannot lighten the hair.
How to Use
Is it difficult? Not at all.
1. Read the Instructions Carefully
Please read the leaflet enclosed in the pack before use. It contains important details that may not be covered here.
2. Prepare the Hair
Wash your hair with a gentle organic shampoo, such as an Ayluna shampoo, so the colour can adhere to the hair as effectively as possible.
If you regularly use styling products or conventional haircare, it is best to use Ayluna Ghassoul first to remove any residue.
Do not use conditioner or intensive hair treatments before colouring.
3. Prepare the Colour Mixture
Place the plant hair colour powder into a bowl and gradually mix with hot water* (around 300 ml per pack) until it forms a thick, creamy paste.
The mixture should have a smooth, creamy consistency and be just fluid enough to drop slightly from the spoon.
Protect your clothing with a salon cape or an old towel.
*Water temperature affects the final shade: the warmer the water, the warmer the colour result.
4. Apply the Colour
Once the mixture has cooled to a comfortable temperature, apply it evenly to the hair section by section using a tint brush, starting at the roots.
Put on the enclosed cap and wrap your head in a towel. The key is to keep the mixture warm during application.
5. Leave to Develop
The processing time for Ayluna hair colour ranges from 15 minutes to 2 hours.
Very light or damaged hair usually needs less time, while darker or healthy hair may need longer.
Make sure the colour does not dry out during processing.
6. Rinse Thoroughly
Rinse the plant hair colour out thoroughly using plenty of water only. Do not use shampoo or conditioner at this stage.
The colour continues to develop over the next 48 hours, and any possible greenish tone will disappear during this time.
Wash your hair with shampoo no sooner than 24–48 hours after colouring.
For extra care, you can apply Ayluna Hair Oil before the first shampoo.
