Oily Skin: How to Achieve Balance?

Oily Skin: How to Achieve Balance?

When the sebaceous glands become overactive, the skin produces excess sebum, leaving it overly shiny and greasy. Oily skin is often linked to elevated testosterone levels and the individual sensitivity of sebaceous gland receptors. This is why oily skin is more common in young people. However, hormonal fluctuations—including those during pregnancy or menopause—can increase oiliness at any age. Factors such as stress, hot and humid climates, and harsh cosmetics can also stimulate sebum production.

Oily skin does have its advantages: sebum protects against UV damage, helps maintain moisture, and delays the appearance of wrinkles. In reality, though, excess oil often causes discomfort—persistent shine, makeup that doesn’t stay in place, and frequent breakouts.

Combination skin, where only the T-zone (forehead, nose, chin) is oily and the cheeks may be normal or dry, is even more common. Caring for combination skin can be challenging because each area has different needs, often requiring separate products.

The foundation of oily-skin care is gentle yet thorough cleansing. SpiruSkin Hyaluron Cleansing Gel, with aloe vera and hyaluronic acid, effectively dissolves impurities while maintaining balance. Pineapple extract provides gentle exfoliation, helping clear pores and smooth the skin.

To meet the needs of oily skin without overloading it, SpiruSkin Balancing Cream was formulated with lightweight avocado, almond, and shea butters. Its delicate texture makes it ideal as a daily moisturizer and makeup base. Spirulina microalgae supply vitamins, while wheat proteins and Irish moss ensure optimal hydration. The cream’s key ingredient, evening primrose oil, is rich in omega-3 fatty acids that improve sebum composition and reduce inflammation.

To help counteract hormonal influences on oiliness, zinc supplements can be useful. Zinc plays a role in essential enzymes that regulate inflammation and has been shown to reduce the conversion of testosterone into its more active form, which stimulates sebum production. Sanatur ZinkSpirulina contains organic spirulina grown on a zinc-enriched substrate, ensuring highly bioavailable zinc. German manufacturing standards guarantee purity, safety, and consistent levels of active ingredients.
